Since we love the land around us, it is with pleasure that we suggest several excursions in the Orvieto surroundings.
The countryside ranges from green hills with woods and vineyards, from ravines with suggestive formations, from tufaceous rocks to the Alfina plateau with its meadows and fields and a magnificent 360 degree view. In the immediate vicinity are delightful villages such as Botto or Benano, and unique towns such as Civita di Bagnoregio, which can be reached only on foot over a bridge. The many towns in the Orvieto area are worth a visit, and year round there are numerous celebrations and festivals. In the Etruscan area there are many sites of archaeological interest, often located near lovely villages such as Sovana, Sorano and Pitigliano, and surrounded by breathtaking countryside.
There are interesting destinations for bathing enthusiasts. The nearby Lake Bolsena is one of Italy’s most beautiful lakes for swimming. There is an unlimited choice of spas: Bagni Vignoni, San Casciano, Viterbo and Saturnia. The beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea is only an hour away.
This area and the towns near Orvieto will give you a hand in discovering good Italian cuisine and its excellent wines. There are many suitable trails for those who like hiking, going for walks or cycling.
In addition to the many discoveries you can make in the immediate surroundings, since Orvieto is quite central it is easy to reach many places of cultural and nature interest, such as Rome (55 min.), Florence (70 min.), Perugia (40 min.), Todi (20 min.), Siena (90 min.), Lake Bolsena (15 min.), Lake Trasimeno (40 min.), mountainous areas and the Tyrrhenian Sea (60 min.). Its excellent railway and motorway connections makes Orvieto an excellent starting point for visiting art cities such as Arezzo, Florence and Rome.
