Since 2006, Electric Theatre Company of Scranton, Pennsylvania and Lingua Sì have been collaborating on ‘In Bocca al Lupo’, a program that features intensive instruction in Italian language at Lingua Sì combined with the development of an improvised play (a scenario) in the tradition of “la Commedia dell’arte”, the ancient tradition of semi-improvised theatre that came to flower during the Renaissance and has influenced theatrical styles worldwide, ever since. Participants are guided by ‘Zuppa del Giorno’, the resident commedia troupe of Electric Theatre Company, and by Italian commedia masters, Angelo Crotti and Andrea Brugnera. At the end of the three week period of development and study, the actors present two semi-improvised performances in different locations, in Italian, and before international audiences.
From its inception, In Bocca al Lupo has drawn participants from around the world. They have without exception called In Bocca al Lupo an exhilarating experience, one that has given them a unique and unforgettable view of Italy, its language, and its culture. While the program enhances the actor’s craft, it is not necessary that participants be experienced actors.
The program (and its final performances) has grown increasingly successful over the years, each time inspiring us to improve and broaden its reach. We look forward to the best program ever in 2010. For details visit the web site: http://www.electrictheatre.org/1Pages/IBL10.asp
